Fitbit has been a popular choice for fitness enthusiasts for more than 15 years. Recently, the company, now owned by Google, introduced a new wearable device called the Fitbit Air. Unlike previous models, the Fitbit Air does not have a screen and resembles fashionable wristbands like the Whoop bands.
Even though the Fitbit Air lacks features such as message reading and heart rate monitoring, it boasts several advantages. The device is designed for comfort, with a bracelet-style strap that makes it more pleasant to wear than a smartwatch. According to a study by Google, the Fitbit Air has been rated as more comfortable than its competitors.
One of the standout features of the Fitbit Air is its impressive battery life. Users can enjoy up to a week of power without needing to recharge. Additionally, the device supports fast charging, providing a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The inclusion of a new magnetic charger with bi-directional technology makes recharging hassle-free.
Despite its minimalist appearance, the Fitbit Air maintains its core functionality as a fitness tracker. It monitors various metrics such as sleep patterns, activity levels, exercise routines, heart rate, and even alerts users about irregular heart rhythms like AFib.
Internally, the Fitbit Air includes an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor. Since it lacks a screen, all the data collected is seamlessly transferred to smartphones, where users can access a comprehensive health overview through the Google Health Coach.
The Fitbit Air is water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be offered in four colors: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender. When it hits the market, the Fitbit Air is expected to be priced at £84.99.
