Jeffrey Epstein experienced fear and distress during his final days in prison, recent revelations have shown. Following a failed suicide attempt, the convicted sex offender expressed concerns about returning to his cell, as indicated in newly disclosed Department of Justice files. Epstein, aged 66, ultimately took his own life in the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Correction Center in New York City on August 10, 2019.
The released documents have raised fresh doubts surrounding the circumstances of Epstein’s death. Despite his brother Mark alerting the FBI with suspicions of foul play, investigations confirmed that Epstein died by suicide through hanging.
In psychiatric records from two weeks prior to his demise, Epstein was described as despondent, likening himself to the character Rain Man from the movie portrayed by Dustin Hoffman. It was revealed that Epstein had previously attempted suicide on July 23, 2019, with reports indicating he had no recollection of the events leading to marks on his neck.
Medical records showed Epstein received treatment for injuries on his neck and knee, with his cellmate at the time, Nicholas Tartaglione, attempting to assist him. Tartaglione was later cleared of any misconduct and had been relocated from their shared cell before Epstein’s death.
Despite Mark Epstein’s online tip to the FBI in February 2023 suggesting a potential murder conspiracy, no evidence has emerged to support the claim. The recent release of extensive files follows widespread public demand for transparency in the US government’s investigations into Epstein’s case.
