Sky Q has been a popular TV device in the UK for over a decade, known for its ability to store content on its internal hard drive. While still a preferred choice, it now faces competition from Manhattan’s latest offering, the S4-R Freesat 4K TV Recorder.
Similar to Sky Q, the S4-R utilizes a dish to deliver shows and movies to households and provides storage for recordings. Users can access a full interactive TV guide and the option to pause live TV. One major advantage of the Manhattan S4-R is the absence of subscription fees, offering access to over 100 free TV and radio channels.
The S4-R can record multiple channels simultaneously, comes with a 500GB hard drive, expandable to larger capacities soon. It offers features like live TV controls for pausing and rewinding broadcasts. Additionally, users can enjoy an intuitive interface, search functionality, and access to a vast library of on-demand content through various apps like BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, and My5.
Manhattan’s COO, Alex Arbab-Zadeh, highlighted the enhanced recording capabilities of the S4-R, allowing up to four simultaneous recordings. He positioned the S4-R as a compelling alternative to subscription TV, offering flexibility, choice, and cost savings.
The Manhattan S4-R will be released this month and will be available at retailers including Currys, John Lewis, Argos, and Richer Sounds. Pricing starts at £219.99 for the 500GB model, with the 1TB version launching in May at £249.99, and the 2TB model in June at £279.99.
