Maya Jama has responded to a critical social media comment about her appearance following the premiere of the new season of Love Island All Stars. The 30-year-old Love Island host was surprised by a follower’s tweet referring to her as having “turkey teeth.”
Currently, Maya is hosting the latest installment of Love Island: All Stars, where former contestants have a chance to find love in South Africa. This season features familiar faces like Whitney Adebayo and Millie Court. Additionally, Maya is involved in the upcoming season of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and serves as a judge on The Masked Singer.
Addressing the criticism on Twitter, Maya clarified that she has braces behind her top teeth and on the outside of her bottom teeth. She shared that she embraced her previous “little crook” but decided to get braces for a change. The online conversation prompted various reactions from fans, with some expressing support for Maya.
Ahead of Love Island: All Stars, Maya opted for lingual braces, which are discreetly placed behind the teeth for a subtle straightening effect. The treatment’s cost starts at around £6,000, offering precise alignment while maintaining a natural smile.
Dr. Rhona from the Chelsea Dental clinic explained that lingual braces are invisible when smiling, providing effective orthodontic treatment without visible braces. Maya began her treatment in October 2025, with an average duration of 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the case.
Despite the feedback, Maya is content with her smile and acknowledges that online comments come with the territory. She recently voiced concerns about artificial intelligence altering her images and emphasized the importance of distinguishing between authentic content and AI-generated material. Maya urged caution against the rise of deepfake content on the internet.
Maya’s message to the AI chatbot Grok reiterated her stance on image manipulation requests. She recounted a past incident where her images were altered without permission, underscoring the challenges posed by online privacy and security.
Love Island: All Stars continues airing on ITV2 and ITVX at 9 pm. For more showbiz updates, follow Mirror Celebs on various social media platforms.
