John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the board, leaders, artists, and filmmakers within the TIFF community to influence the organization’s future direction. His tenure officially commences on October 1, coinciding with the ongoing festival scheduled from September 10 to 20.
Tory succeeds Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position of chair since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in contributing to the film festival’s evolution. Additionally, TIFF announced the appointment of three new board members, namely Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, extending its gratitude for her valuable service and dedication.
