Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are set to make boxing history with a highly-anticipated rematch at The Las Vegas Sphere in September. This event marks the first professional boxing bout to be hosted at this venue.
The two legendary boxers previously faced off in what was dubbed the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015, with Mayweather emerging as the victor. Despite both fighters retiring, a rematch has now been confirmed by Netflix, scheduled for September 19 at The Las Vegas Sphere.
The upcoming Mayweather Pacquiao II fight is expected to break records, with their previous encounter at the MGM Grand Garden Arena raking in £4.6 million in pay-per-view buys and a gate revenue of $72.2 million (£53.5 million).
Mayweather reportedly earned $250 million (£185.3 million) from their initial bout, while Pacquiao took home $150 million (£111.2 million). Mayweather, known as ‘Money,’ holds a perfect 50-0 record and will defend it in this rematch, set to be officially sanctioned.
Pacquiao expressed his excitement for the rematch, stating that fans have waited long enough for this momentous event, now to be globally streamed on Netflix. He aims to secure a victory and leave a lasting mark on Mayweather’s record.
Mayweather, confident in his abilities, expects the same result as their first encounter. Both fighters are planning warm-up matches before their anticipated showdown, with Pacquiao facing Ruslan Provodnikov and Mayweather potentially squaring off against Mike Tyson.
The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch will headline at The Sphere, making it the first boxing event to do so and only the second sports event after UFC 306 held in September 2024.
