Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien is reportedly feeling slighted by Adolescent star Owen Cooper. The 16-year-old Golden Globe winner has garnered acclaim for his outstanding performance in the Netflix series, impressing audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.
During a recent awards ceremony in Hollywood, Owen received the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old murder suspect in the critically acclaimed show. While expressing gratitude to his family and acknowledging his risk-taking journey into drama classes, Owen omitted any mention of Tina, who co-founded Drama Mob, the acting school where he honed his skills.
Sources suggest that Tina, a 42-year-old Corrie legend who established Drama Mob to address the lack of acting classes for her daughter Scarlett, feels neglected by Owen’s lack of acknowledgment despite her significant support for his career.
The absence of recognition for Drama Mob in Owen’s success has also raised concerns among the school’s teaching staff. When reviews initially suggested Owen had no prior training before his role in Adolescence, Esther, co-founder of Drama Mob, expressed frustration, emphasizing the time and effort invested in nurturing talents like Owen.
Esther previously highlighted Owen’s potential during his time at Drama Mob, indicating she recognized his talent early on. However, Tina, whose daughter also trained alongside Owen at the school, has yet to comment on his recent achievements.
Reflecting on his journey to success, Owen humbly addressed the star-studded audience at the Golden Globes, expressing gratitude for the support he received and emphasizing his ongoing learning process. Despite the accolades, his failure to acknowledge Tina’s role in his development has stirred debate within the entertainment community.
The Mirror has reached out to Tina’s representative for comment.
