Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area, where a pilot went missing after flying in the region last week. The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), responsible for coordinating air and marine search and rescue operations in Ontario, announced on social media that a plane was discovered on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The case has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s investigation, as stated by the JRCC in their announcement. Although not explicitly mentioned, it is implied that the plane found belongs to the missing pilot, a 73-year-old individual identified as David by law enforcement officials.
According to Durham police, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. the same day. It was noted that his usual flying route encompasses the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Previously, the Ontario Provincial Police described the aircraft as a small blue homemade plane with the tail marked with “FOFZ.” David, a seasoned pilot, is described as being five feet seven inches tall, with a slender physique, black grey hair, and a moustache.
