The wife of a loving father who was tragically hit and killed by a police car in London has expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of her husband. David Clark, an Australian national, lost his life in Borough on January 7 when he was struck by a marked police vehicle. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is currently investigating the incident, confirming that Mr. Clark received immediate aid from the police but unfortunately passed away at the scene.
In a heartfelt statement, Mrs. Clark described her late husband as a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend, emphasizing the profound impact his death has had on their family. The IOPC specified that Mr. Clark, residing in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, was involved in a fatal collision with a Metropolitan Police vehicle in Southwark.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Clark, aged 35, was crossing the road when the collision occurred between his path and the first police vehicle responding to an emergency call. Both police vehicles stopped at the scene to provide immediate assistance to Mr. Clark, who was later pronounced deceased. The IOPC initiated an independent investigation promptly after being alerted to the incident, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering accounts from the involved officers.
Acknowledging the support received during this difficult time, Mrs. Clark expressed gratitude for the compassion extended by those reaching out. The family has requested privacy as they cope with their loss and focus on caring for their daughter while honoring David’s memory privately. The IOPC Director, Amanda Rowe, conveyed condolences to Mr. Clark’s family and emphasized the importance of an independent investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
To cover the costs of repatriating Mr. Clark’s body to Australia, friends of the family have initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, raising over £15,000 thus far.
