The union representing WestJet’s cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has outlined that the deal encompasses an 18% wage increase spread over three years, along with a new “duty period premium” for ground work compensation. Additionally, the agreement includes enhanced time off, increased food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
Amid the long weekend, WestJet flights throughout a significant part of Canada were halted as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike. The strike commenced early Sunday but was averted as the airline and the union struck a tentative deal early Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
Cabin crew members will have the opportunity to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
