UK households relying on Freeview for television entertainment are urged to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune due to recent channel changes. While not a significant overhaul, ensuring that TVs are fully updated by conducting a swift retune is recommended.
Freeview has confirmed that on May 20, 2026, some broadcasters will be implementing changes to their channels. Users are advised to retune their TVs to keep their channels and TV guide current.
Among the changes, two channels have undergone name alterations. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 has been rebranded as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, channel numbers have been shuffled, with Great! Movies moving from channel 61 to channel 62, while Great! TV +1 is now on channel 61.
Freeview emphasized that channels on their platform continue to evolve, with individual providers making decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels. The platform aims to offer audiences a diverse and enriching content selection.
If the updates are not automatically reflected on your TV, manual retuning of the device may be necessary. To retune your TV effectively:
– Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
– Select options like “set-up,” “installation,” or “update”
– If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
– Choose options like “first-time installation” or “full retune”
– Confirm deletion of existing channels, if asked
– The retune process should start automatically
– Save any channels found during the scan, if prompted
