Donald Trump has issued a concerning warning about an upcoming “day of retribution” in Minnesota. Despite widespread criticism of ICE’s tactics in the state, the US President has decided to escalate the deployment of agents, focusing on Somali Americans, most of whom are US citizens.
On his Truth Social platform, Trump raised alarm by questioning the safety of having convicted criminals, drug dealers, rapists, and other dangerous individuals in Minnesota communities. He defended ICE’s actions, emphasizing the agency’s mission to remove such individuals from neighborhoods and return them to their places of origin.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, the majority of Somali Americans in Minnesota are lawful US citizens through naturalization or birth. While a small percentage are non-citizens with legal status, the number of illegal Somali migrants in the state is estimated to be minimal.
Despite the administration dispatching thousands of ICE agents to Minnesota, the ratio of agents to potential deportees raises questions about the efficacy of such a large-scale deployment. Trump cited instances in Chicago where crime rates purportedly decreased after ICE interventions, attributing unrest in Minnesota to Democrats and deflecting attention from other issues.
In a final ominous declaration, Trump assured the people of Minnesota that a “day of reckoning & retribution” is imminent, escalating tensions in the state.
