BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to re-enter the market after pausing new customer registrations in 2023. Previously favoring the EE network brand, BT is now shifting gears to offer its existing broadband customers access to BT-branded SIM deals once again.
Although specific details are yet to be disclosed, this move reflects BT’s commitment to reinforcing the visibility of its well-established brand, which took a backseat as EE became the company’s primary consumer focus in recent years. CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, aims to revitalize BT’s presence among UK households to prevent the brand from waning in public awareness.
Kirkby emphasized the company’s significant investments in network infrastructure in recent years, signaling a strategic focus on enhancing brand, products, and services during an event at Wembley. With this relaunch, BT will compete directly with major providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY.
While pricing details are pending, BT’s strategy involves bundling broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services into a single package with a consolidated monthly bill. Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this initiative as a crucial step to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving telecom market, emphasizing the importance of network reliability and customer trust for success.
In addition to its market reentry, BT announced its role as the official telecoms partner for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be hosted across Britain and Ireland. Pescatore highlighted the significance of this partnership as a platform to showcase BT’s scale, relevance, and service delivery, emphasizing the unifying power of sports in fostering emotional connections with users, households, and businesses.
