Russell Brand, the comedian and actor, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today via video link from the US to face two new charges – one of rape and one of sexual assault – involving two additional women, dating back to 2009. He was released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police stated in December that the women who reported the incidents, including those related to the new charges, are receiving support from trained officers. The investigation by the Met is ongoing, with detectives encouraging anyone impacted by the case or possessing relevant information to come forward and cooperate with the authorities.
Brand, aged 50, is already confronting accusations of sexual offenses from four other women. He had been accused in May 2025 of two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault allegedly occurring between 1999 and 2005. Brand denied these charges during a previous court appearance at Southwark Crown Court and is scheduled for trial in June 2026.
The court documents revealed that the two recent alleged offenses took place in London. A trial concerning the original five charges is planned to commence at Southwark Crown Court later this year.
During the brief hearing, Brand, dressed in a denim shirt with several buttons open, only confirmed his identity and birth date. He will reappear at Southwark Crown Court on February 17.
