Ms. Rachel has announced a generous donation of $1 million US to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), in response to rapper Macklemore’s similar pledge. The American YouTube personality, Rachel Accurso, shared her commitment on Instagram, urging other affluent white celebrities to match her donation and speak out against the crisis in Gaza.
Expressing concern for the thousands of Palestinian children who have lost their lives, Ms. Rachel emphasized the importance of using privilege and platforms to advocate for child protection and human rights. With a substantial online following of over 21 million subscribers, she has been actively supporting PCRF and raising awareness about the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Macklemore, also known as Benjamin Haggerty, responded warmly to Ms. Rachel’s announcement, showing support for her cause. The musician recently declared that he would donate his entire $1-million earnings from Ed Sheeran’s tour to organizations aiding Palestinians, following his removal from the tour for expressing pro-Palestinian sentiments on stage.
Amidst the controversy, Macklemore addressed concerns about his statements and emphasized his message of peace and equality for all. The situation led to backlash from pro-Israel groups and venue threats, ultimately resulting in Macklemore’s removal from the tour allegedly coordinated by businessman Robert Kraft.
In response, Kraft, a supporter of Israel, clarified his stance against hate speech and divisive messaging. The incident prompted a chain of events, including Sheeran’s distancing from the controversy and the subsequent departure of all supporting acts from the tour.
Both Kraft and Sheeran have now pledged $2 million US each towards humanitarian aid in Gaza, following a challenge from Macklemore. The collaborative effort aims to address the ongoing crisis and foster unity in response to the escalating situation.
