A man disguised as a Deliveroo rider and suspected of being a contract killer has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for a shooting incident in Ladbroke Grove, northwest London. The perpetrator, Jazz Reid, fired multiple shots at a family in a car, injuring an eight-year-old girl and a 34-year-old man. The father sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while the young girl was hit in the buttocks and foot, altering her once vibrant personality.
The shootings, part of a series involving two guns, were meticulously planned with a high level of precision by Reid. Despite the lack of a clear motive, the court found Reid guilty of attempted murder, intentional wounding, and firearms offenses. The judge expressed concerns about the possibility of contract killings due to the seemingly random nature of the attacks.
Reid’s modus operandi involved driving to the location in a rented car, changing into his Deliveroo attire, and using an e-bike to approach his targets. Following his arrest, a gun was discovered at Reid’s residence, adding to the evidence against him. The victims’ family members described the lasting impact of the crime on their lives, emphasizing the emotional and physical toll inflicted by Reid’s actions.
Law enforcement officials commended the community for their assistance in the investigation, highlighting the importance of bringing Reid to justice to ensure public safety. Superintendent Owen Renowden praised the bravery of the victims and emphasized the significance of the lengthy prison sentence in making London a safer place.
