“Count Nikolai of Monpezat Makes Acting Debut”

Count Nikolai of Monpezat, grandson of Queen Margrethe II, has expressed his enthusiasm for a new acting opportunity. The 26-year-old, known for his modeling work, is gearing up for his debut in the upcoming film adaptation of the 1905 Swedish novel, Doktor Glas, penned by Hjalmar Söderberg.

Although recognized for his modeling endeavors, Count Nikolai, son of Prince Joachim, shared his excitement about venturing into a different professional realm. He will portray the character of Patrick Gregorius’s half-brother in the movie.

During a recent discussion, Count Nikolai disclosed that his role involves interacting with the movie’s antagonist, describing his character as a “peculiar, untamed brother.” Initially thrilled but also daunted by the challenge of his first acting experience upon reading the script, he expressed a mix of emotions.

Reflecting on his venture into acting, Count Nikolai emphasized that the Dr. Glas film project has been a gratifying experience for him. While acknowledging his unfamiliarity with the film industry, he highlighted the joy of collaborating with a skilled team in a vibrant new environment.

Despite his newfound acting pursuit, Count Nikolai, who also engages in consultancy in the property sector, views this opportunity as a job rather than a definitive career path. He emphasized the importance of awaiting the final production before contemplating future roles.

A significant change occurred in Count Nikolai’s life three years ago when Queen Margrethe decided that her son’s children would only bear the titles of counts and countesses of Monpezat, relinquishing their prince and princess titles. This decision aimed to afford the grandchildren more autonomy to shape their lives without the constraints of royal obligations.

Following the announcement, Count Nikolai, previously known as Prince Nikolai, expressed surprise and sadness at losing his princely title. He remarked on the abruptness of the decision and its emotional impact on him and his family.

Notably, Count Nikolai’s grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, shared a familial connection with the late Queen Elizabeth, referring to each other affectionately as “Lilibet” and “Daisy.”
