BT has introduced a new method for internet access that goes beyond simple connectivity. The latest Smart Hub 3 Wi-Fi router from the company is set to launch in UK households soon, offering not only enhanced connectivity but also a range of security features.
A standout feature is the technology integrated into the router that can automatically identify potentially harmful websites, alerting users to potential malware or other online threats before they can cause any damage. Additionally, the router is equipped to detect suspicious activity by hackers attempting to access internet-connected smart home devices like cameras, preemptively blocking such unauthorized attempts.
Users will have the ability to monitor identified threats through the Hub Threat Protect feature within the MyBT app. These enhancements are designed to bolster online security for households and proactively safeguard against potential cyberattacks.
In addition to security features, the Smart Hub 3 prioritizes performance. It supports Complete Wi-Fi Plus, which helps extend Wi-Fi coverage throughout the home, eliminating dead zones in weaker signal areas.
The Smart Hub 3 boasts a sleek and minimalistic design, featuring a small BT logo at its center, as seen in images shared online.
It is worth noting that the router is compatible with Wi-Fi 6 technology, rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7 standard seen in some competing devices. While Wi-Fi 7 offers faster speeds, lower latency, and enhanced reliability, many current devices do not yet support this standard, making Wi-Fi 6 more than sufficient for most households, representing a significant upgrade from older Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4 equipment.
For those interested in acquiring the new router, BT’s Smart Hub 3 will be accessible to new customers, with some existing users possibly qualifying for an upgrade.
Regarding the distinction between Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 6 enhances wireless performance by boosting speed, efficiency, and capacity in comparison to Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 4. On the other hand, Wi-Fi 7 takes these advancements further by offering wider 320 MHz channels, reduced latency, and even higher speeds, making it particularly beneficial for gaming, 8K streaming, and advanced smart home setups.
While Wi-Fi 6 continues to be a robust choice for most users currently, Wi-Fi 7 presents a more future-proof solution.
