Angie Best Undergoes ‘Mistletoe’ Therapy for Cancer

Angie Best, the 73-year-old ex-wife of football legend George Best, recently provided an emotional update from her hospital room where she is undergoing unconventional ‘mistletoe’ chemotherapy for her colon cancer that has spread to her liver. In a photo shared on Instagram, Angie can be seen connected to an IV drip in a medical facility in Switzerland.

Following her son Calum’s public disclosure of her diagnosis, Angie posted a heartfelt message expressing gratitude to her supporters while trying to maintain a brave front during her treatment. The use of mistletoe therapy, which derives extracts from the European mistletoe plant, is a controversial alternative cancer treatment popular in Europe, particularly in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Despite its debated efficacy in mainstream medicine, some practitioners believe mistletoe therapy can boost the immune system and improve the quality of life for cancer patients. Although not endorsed by the NHS due to inconclusive evidence of its curative properties, Angie is combining this treatment with conventional chemotherapy.

Messages of love and encouragement poured in for Angie, with her son Calum and well-known personalities expressing their support. While Angie has raised concerns about conventional cancer treatments, she remains determined to fight the disease, emphasizing the importance of research and financial support.

Angie’s battle with cancer resonates with her history alongside George Best, whom she met in 1975 in Los Angeles. Despite their tumultuous relationship and eventual divorce due to George’s struggles with alcoholism, their son Calum remains a pillar of support for Angie during her health crisis.

Bowel cancer, the same disease that claimed George Best’s life, presents symptoms such as rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habits, weight loss, fatigue, and abdominal pain. Annual statistics reveal a significant number of individuals diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK and the US, underscoring the importance of early detection and appropriate treatment.

As Angie undergoes her challenging journey with cancer, the outpouring of love and assistance from her family, friends, and fans remains a source of strength and hope for her.
