McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing frustration following a viral social media post that revealed the soaring price of a hash brown, reaching close to £2 at select restaurants.
The post features an image of a McDonald’s menu board displaying a hash brown priced at £1.99 at the specific restaurant visited by the individual. Shared widely, the post garnered over 459,000 views and was captioned with disbelief at the £2 cost for a single hash brown.
Reactions poured in with one person stating, “It’s gotten out of hand; it used to be an affordable choice.” Another remarked, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third simply called it “madness.”
Expressing sentiments, another commenter said, “Those hash browns are amazing, but £2 is too steep.” Yet another reminisced, “I recall when they were only 59p.”
In response, a McDonald’s spokesperson clarified that many restaurants are franchise-owned, allowing them to set prices independently. Despite this variation, the commitment remains to offer customers a premium dining experience with value for money.
This development follows McDonald’s announcement of upcoming changes to the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program. Currently, 5,500 points are needed for items like a Big Mac or Chicken Nuggets. However, starting from March 17, the points requirement will increase to 6,500 for these items, with customers earning 100 points for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.
Furthermore, the loyalty scheme adjustments include escalating point thresholds for various items, such as coffee, fries, desserts, and sandwiches. A McDonald’s representative cited rising food and supply costs as the rationale behind the alterations, emphasizing the introduction of new redemption options like Chicken Selects and Sausage Sandwiches to enhance customer choices.
