Shocking images have emerged showing the aftermath of a plane that went missing in mid-air with 11 individuals on board. The aircraft disappeared from radars on January 17 in Indonesia, and authorities found wreckage from the crash in South Sulawesi. Departing from Yogyakarta’s Adisutjipto Airport, the Indonesia Air Transport plane lost contact with air traffic control only 12 miles away from its destination at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi.
The plane was eventually discovered crashed in a remote area of the province, prompting rescue teams to swiftly respond in search of survivors. Sadly, one man’s body was recovered around 656 feet down a ravine on the slope of Mount Bulusaraung in Sulawesi. His identity remains unknown, but it is believed he was a passenger on the ill-fated flight.
Muhammad Arif Anwar, the chief of the Makassar Search and Rescue Office, stated, “The identification of the main sections of the aircraft has significantly narrowed the search area and provided a vital lead for concentrating the search efforts. Our combined search and rescue teams are now prioritizing the search for any potential survivors.”
Pieces of the plane’s fuselage were found scattered across rugged terrain on Sunday, with debris spread across a steep mountainside in Indonesia. Officials journeyed to the remote mountainside amidst foggy conditions as they combed through the area for any signs of the aircraft and its passengers. The search for the remaining 10 individuals on board the tragic flight is ongoing.
