A warning was issued to Europe by a Russian nationalist politician amidst the urgent response to recent threats made by the US President. Aleksey Zhuravlev, 63, expressed his concerns about leaders like Donald Trump, whom he accuses of believing he is all-powerful, stating that such leaders have historically led the world into chaos. Zhuravlev suggested that if a conflict with the US were to arise, Europe would seek protection from Russia by bowing at their feet.
The tensions escalated after Trump reiterated the US’s interest in Greenland for national security reasons, while EU chief Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that Greenland belongs to its people and engaged with Denmark on the matter.
Zhuravlev, in a post on Telegram, highlighted Trump’s assertive actions towards Venezuela and Greenland, indicating a pattern of ambitious territorial claims. He criticized Trump’s self-perceived supremacy, warning of the disastrous consequences that leaders with such egos can bring to the world.
Zhuravlev, who serves as the deputy chairman of the Russian parliament’s defence committee, previously proposed providing nuclear-capable Russian missiles to Venezuela and Cuba in response to US operations in Venezuela. He also suggested a forceful response to the US capture of a Russian-flagged oil tanker, asserting that Russia should be prepared to use nuclear weapons if necessary.
The politician’s remarks underscore a growing geopolitical tension and the potential implications of power dynamics on a global scale.
