Lidl has introduced a new feature in its loyalty app that allows customers to scan items using their phones, potentially reducing checkout time. The feature, tested in a trial earlier this year, is expected to be rolled out next year.
The supermarket chain has applied for a trademark in Europe and the UK for “Lidl & Go,” related to digital payment and scan-and-shop systems in its stores. Shyam Unarket, Customer Relations Director at Lidl GB, emphasized the company’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience through digital innovations.
Meanwhile, Lidl has been named the cheapest supermarket by Which? for the second time in recent months, beating out Aldi. A comparison of 70 items showed that shopping at Lidl was more cost-effective, with an average total cost slightly lower than at Aldi.
In a separate price analysis, Tesco and Sainsbury’s were found to have higher average costs compared to Lidl and Aldi. The comparison excluded Aldi and Lidl due to their smaller product ranges.
By leveraging technology and competitive pricing, Lidl continues to innovate and maintain its position as a cost-effective shopping destination for consumers.
