Andy Murray, a retired professional tennis player and two-time Wimbledon champion, has announced his intention to transition from tennis to golf. After retiring from tennis in 2020, Murray, who briefly coached Novak Djokovic, is now dedicated to honing his golf skills. While Murray has participated in celebrity golf tournaments recently, he believes that turning professional in golf is unlikely.
Despite not pursuing a professional golf career, Murray expressed his desire to contribute to the sport in a different role. He revealed on The Romesh Ranganathan Show his aspiration to become a caddie for a professional golfer and potentially participate in The Open championship.
Murray shared his enthusiasm for the idea of working as a golf caddie, emphasizing the joy of supporting a top golfer during significant moments on the course. He mentioned that partnering with professional golfer Robert MacIntyre is his dream, having previously teamed up with him at the BMW PGA Championships.
While there is speculation about Murray attempting to qualify for The Open, he dismissed the idea, stating that his goal is to participate in regional qualifying events. Murray acknowledged the vast gap in skill level between amateur players like himself and professional golfers, expressing respect for the elite players on the Tour.
