“Fatal Swiss New Year’s Fire: Bar Worker Lacked Safety Training”

A family lawyer claims that a bar worker, who is believed to have accidentally started a fatal fire in Switzerland during New Year’s celebrations, did not receive any safety training. The worker, identified as Cyane Panine, was allegedly unaware of the risks involved when the fire broke out, claiming the lives of 40 individuals.

The owners of the Le Constellation bar, Jacques and Jessica Moretti, are facing accusations of negligence leading to manslaughter, bodily harm, and arson. The fire, which occurred in the ski resort of Crans-Montana, resulted in the death of 40 people and injuries to 116 others.

According to Sophie Haenni, the lawyer representing Panine’s family, the bar worker was not assigned to serve tables on the fateful night but was asked to assist due to high demand. Haenni stated that Panine followed instructions without being informed of the potential danger and without receiving any safety training.

The lawyer further emphasized that adherence to safety standards and proper inspections could have prevented the tragedy, labeling Panine as a victim of the circumstances. Panine’s family also expressed concerns about her working conditions and the lack of empathy from her employers, highlighting her sense of being exploited.

Following the incident, a Swiss court imposed a travel ban on Jessica Moretti while Jacques Moretti is currently in custody for a 90-day period. Initial investigations suggest that the fire was ignited by sparklers setting fire to the soundproof foaming material lining the ceiling.
