After over ten years of conducting interviews with celebrities over fried chicken on her popular YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” Amelia Dimoldenberg announced this week that she is bringing the show to a close. In an Instagram post, Dimoldenberg expressed her gratitude to her viewers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes. Despite initially thinking the show would be a permanent part of her life, she now feels it’s time to embark on a new adventure.
Dimoldenberg launched the show 12 years ago, focusing on interviews with musicians in Britain’s underground rap scene before expanding to chat with celebrities such as Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on casual dates with celebrities at fried chicken shops in London, asking a mix of flirty, funny, and sometimes awkward questions. The format encourages banter similar to a first date rather than a traditional talk show interview, sometimes leading to playful interactions, as seen in her interview with Andrew Garfield.
Among her interviews, Dimoldenberg has also engaged with Canadians like Ryan Reynolds, where she corrected him on the name of his wife Blake Lively’s character in “Gossip Girl.” The show also featured Shania Twain, who revealed she had never met Brad Pitt despite referencing him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
The success of Dimoldenberg’s YouTube channel has opened doors for her outside of the chicken shop, including covering the Oscars red carpet this year and interviewing another Canadian, Hudson Williams. While her future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, Dimoldenberg is set to develop a young adult drama series for the BBC. She has promised a few final dates before bidding farewell to the show for good.
