“Pro-Independence Group Leader Steps Down Over Racial Slur”

A member of the Alberta Prosperity Project, a key pro-independence group, has stepped down following his use of a racial slur during an event where the group unveiled a draft constitution for an independent Alberta. The event, organized by the “Stay Free Alberta” initiative, showcased the Black Hat Gang from Medicine Hat, who played a role in crafting the constitution.

Ian Parkinson, a co-writer of the constitution named “Foundation of Freedom,” made derogatory remarks that sparked criticism. In response, Mitch Sylvestre, the project’s leader, accepted Parkinson’s resignation and emphasized the group’s disapproval of such comments.

The incident has drawn condemnation, with separatist leaders like Keith Wilson expressing disappointment and distancing themselves from the controversial statements. The draft constitution, which includes unconventional proposals like the creation of an oversight branch and the election of judges, has faced backlash from various factions within the separatist movement.

Despite differing opinions among separatists, Sylvestre clarified that the draft constitution presented is a starting point for discussions, not a final document. He highlighted the need for inclusive dialogue and hinted at a constitutional conference in the event of a successful separation referendum.

Political analysts, like Jared Wesley, point out the lack of unity within the independence movement as Albertans approach the upcoming polls on Oct. 19. Questions persist about the concrete plan for Alberta’s potential secession, indicating a need for a cohesive strategy from separatist advocates.
