Samsung has introduced its latest lineup of innovative foldable smartphones, potentially posing a challenge to Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone.
The tech giant from Korea revealed three new devices, led by the new Galaxy Z Fold 8, featuring a fresh design approach. Unlike previous models, the Fold 8 sports a wider “passport-style” design when closed, transforming into a compact tablet-like 7.6-inch display when unfolded, perfect for entertainment activities on the move.
This launch is significant as Apple is expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone later this year, possibly adopting a similar design. Samsung’s early release may give it an edge over its rival.
Beyond design, Samsung is also advancing in other aspects. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the thinnest and lightest Fold to date at 180g, boasting an enhanced hinge for durability and a better display for visibility in bright conditions.
Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and a 4,800mAh battery charging to 63% in just 30 minutes, the Fold 8 offers a dual-camera system, Gorilla Glass protection, and advanced AI features.
Starting at £1,699, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now open for pre-orders, while Apple’s foldable iPhone is anticipated to arrive later at a higher price point.
In addition to the Fold 8, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, resembling the previous model but with upgraded hardware, including a 200MP main sensor and improved cameras. The device also features a stronger hinge, a refined display structure, and a larger battery.
Priced at £1,899, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra offers advanced features for photography and durability. Lastly, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 maintains the familiar clamshell design but with enhancements like a thinner build, improved performance, and better cameras, starting at £1,149.
