“Lost Heir Found: UK Teenager Taken by Nazis Inherits £100k Estate”

Jozef Domanski, a teenager at the time, was taken by the Nazis for forced labor in Germany back in 1941. Following his release after the war, he settled in the UK, residing in Wolverhampton and later Essex. Unfortunately, Jozef lost contact with his family in Poland, with communication dwindling over the years, especially after an injury in 1976. Despite efforts to locate him, his family was unsuccessful.

Tragically, Jozef passed away in 2012 at the age of 86, having never married or had children. Approximately 85 years after his capture, his family has now inherited his estate worth £100,000 after a lengthy legal process involving the UK, Germany, and Poland. His nephew and family representative, Krzysztof Sadowski, expressed the emotional journey of reconnecting with Jozef’s past through letters and memories.

The search for Jozef’s heirs spanned over a decade, requiring collaboration between experts in multiple countries. Simonne Llewellyn, CEO of Finders International, emphasized the poignant nature of the case and the significance of international cooperation in reuniting Jozef’s family. The research efforts, led by Benjamin Ratz of GEN SPZOO, ultimately led to the discovery of surviving relatives who will share the inheritance.

Krzysztof plans to honor his grandparents, who never gave up hope of finding Jozef, by dedicating part of the inheritance to them. The story serves as a reminder of the lasting impact of war on families and the importance of preserving history and family connections. Antoine Djikpa, Chairman of the IAPPR, underlined the significance of restoring Jozef’s legacy as a form of justice and accountability, even years after his passing.
