The Gig1 plan offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available at a discounted rate of £26.99 per month. This promotion results in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, translating to approximately 87p per day.
According to Virgin Media, this is the lowest price ever offered for the Gig1 package. With these high speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.
It is important to note that while the initial rate is £26.99, Virgin has confirmed that the price will increase twice during the minimum term. The cost will rise to £30.99 from April 2027 and to £34.99 from April 2028. For those seeking even lower prices, Community Fibre currently provides 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this service is limited to London and select south-east areas.
Different households have varying internet speed requirements. While 1Gbps speeds are ideal for heavy users, a couple streaming Netflix daily may be content with speeds around 100Mbps. Larger households engaging in remote work, downloads, and online gaming should consider speeds of at least 300Mbps for optimal performance.
