Aldi has recently implemented significant price reductions on a wide range of products throughout January. These reductions cover various categories such as fresh and frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and personal care items.
Among the notable price cuts are red lentils now priced at 99p, down from £1.39, porridge sachets reduced to 79p from 99p, and organic steel cut oats available for £1.99, lowered from £2.19. Additionally, beef and pork Bolognese mince is now £4.49, down from £4.79, pork and gammon joints are priced at £3.49, reduced from £3.99, and Specially Selected British cheese is now £2.29, down from £2.59.
Customers can also enjoy savings on other items like sweetcorn reduced to 55p from 59p, and a discount on six large free-range eggs at £1.75, down from £1.79. Furthermore, selected products like no beef flank steak are now £6.99, previously £7.49, and vegetable pieces and meatballs are available for £1.49, reduced from £1.99.
Aldi’s price reductions in January amount to an investment exceeding £22 million aimed at offering customers the best value. Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the supermarket’s commitment to consistently reviewing prices to provide customers with affordable options without compromising on quality.
In addition to the price cuts, Aldi has announced plans to open 40 new stores in the UK this year. This expansion initiative includes investing £370 million in new locations such as Southam in Warwickshire, Hastings in East Sussex, and Amersham in Buckinghamshire. These efforts align with Aldi’s long-term goal of reaching 1,500 stores in the UK.
Recent accolades include Aldi being recognized as the cheapest supermarket in 2025 by Which? consumer rights magazine. Throughout the year, Aldi was the most cost-effective option in 10 out of 12 months, with Lidl claiming the top spot twice. The average price difference between Aldi and Lidl for the entire year was just 77p.
In December, Aldi maintained its position as the most economical supermarket for a list of 68 items, with an average cost of £123.60. Lidl closely followed at £123.70 for both Lidl Plus members and non-members. Comparatively, Asda’s average cost for the same items was £134.89, while Tesco Clubcard members paid £135.84 or £139.12 without a Clubcard.
