A prominent al-Qaeda operative was eliminated in US airstrikes in Syria following an ISIS assault that resulted in the deaths of three Americans. Bilal Hasan al-Jasim, believed to be a key figure behind the brutal attack, was described by the Pentagon as a seasoned terrorist leader with intentions to harm the US.
Adm. Brad Cooper, the commander of US Central Command, emphasized the US commitment to pursuing terrorists targeting American citizens and military personnel. The strike conducted by US Central Command on January 16 successfully targeted and killed Al-Jasim, who had direct ties to the ISIS gunman responsible for the tragic incident in Palmyra, Syria, on December 13.
US authorities reported that CENTCOM carried out significant strikes in response to the December 13 attack, known as Operation Hawkeye Strike, resulting in the targeting of over 100 ISIS infrastructure and weapons locations using more than 200 precise munitions. Furthermore, US and allied forces have apprehended over 300 ISIS members and neutralized more than 20 individuals in Syria over the past year to eliminate threats to US and regional security.
In a separate military action on December 19, the Trump administration launched strikes in Syria to combat Islamic State group fighters and dismantle their weapon depots. President Trump warned terrorists of severe repercussions if they threaten or attack the US, emphasizing the nation’s unwavering stance against such acts of aggression.
