Steve Wright, known as the Suffolk Strangler, has confessed to the murder of Victoria Hall, who went missing over 25 years ago. Additionally, the 67-year-old serial killer has admitted to attempting to kidnap Emily Doherty, then 22, in Felixstowe the day before Hall’s disappearance.
Back in 2008, Wright, a former steward on the QE2, was sentenced to a rare whole life order for the brutal killings of five Ipswich prostitutes, solidifying his reputation as one of the most infamous criminals in the country.
Despite overwhelming evidence against him, Wright, in a letter to Anthony Bond from prison, adamantly maintained his innocence shortly after his conviction. Reflecting on this letter now only amplifies the chilling nature of his deceit and his lack of empathy towards the victims’ families.
Nearly two decades ago, the murders of five young sex workers in Ipswich shocked the nation. The bodies of Gemma Adams, Tania Nicol, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell, and Annette Nicholls were discovered in remote locations near Suffolk town within a ten-day period in December 2006. All the victims had been strangled or suffocated.
During the trial, it was revealed that Wright meticulously targeted and killed the women after stalking the streets near his residence. Evidence including DNA and fibers linked to Wright’s clothing, house, and car were crucial in linking him to the crimes.
Following his imprisonment, Wright corresponded with a journalist from his prison cell, sparking outrage among the victims’ families.
In a shocking turn of events, Wright has now confessed to the murder of Victoria Hall, further exposing the gravity of his lies and deception. Notably, a segment from his previous letter stands out amidst the newfound revelations.
In response to Wright’s claims of innocence, Brian Clennell, father of Paula, expressed disbelief in the face of overwhelming evidence against Wright, condemning his actions and wishing for justice for the victims.
With Wright’s recent admission of guilt in one case, the families of the other victims are hopeful that he will finally confess to the remaining murders, bringing closure to their long-standing anguish.
