Horwath’s decision to speak out comes after a recent property standards committee ruling related to a property she owns, where her ex-partner resides in Hamilton. The city had previously mandated extensive repairs, setting a deadline for completion by May 1 of this year.
Despite seeking an extension on the repair deadline, Horwath expressed disappointment in the committee’s decision. She vowed to address the unresolved property issues and bring closure to this distressing chapter of her life while fulfilling her responsibilities as the property’s legal owner.
Experts, including Melissa Kimber from McMaster University, praised Horwath’s courage in sharing her story, highlighting the challenges survivors face in speaking out due to fear of doubt, blame, and stigma.
