“Dolly Parton to Have Nashville Airport Renamed”

The late Dolly Parton is set to have Nashville International Airport in Tennessee renamed in her honor following a recent decision by the board of commissioners. The initiative, initially proposed last year, gained traction after Parton’s passing at the age of 80. Fans rallied through a social media campaign for the airport to bear the name of the iconic country singer, garnering support from Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee.

Governor Lee expressed that Dolly Parton’s impactful life is deeply ingrained in Tennessee’s history, making it fitting for the airport to reflect her legacy. He highlighted her contributions to the state, including the significant economic boost she brings through her Dollywood theme park. Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton rose to fame with her music career, putting the state on the global map with her performances at venues like the Grand Ole Opry.

The renaming process timeframe is yet to be determined, as the airport’s current policy typically requires a two-year period posthumously before naming properties after individuals. The exact name for the airport in recognition of Dolly Parton is still under consideration, with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority working on incorporating her name and legacy thoughtfully.
