Co-op is set to introduce innovative “flexi checkouts” aimed at reducing wait times for customers in stores.
These smart tills, provided by American tech company Diebold Nixdorf, can seamlessly switch between self-service and cashier-operated modes based on customer preferences. Co-op’s initiative aims to enhance convenience and efficiency for shoppers.
The rollout of these new checkouts to 150 Co-op stores by April will not only offer flexibility in checkout options but also display price savings, promotions, and future potential for parcel collection services. Co-op prides itself on being the first supermarket in the UK to implement this cutting-edge technology.
David Tyas, Co-op’s head of operations, support center, and innovation, emphasized the focus on local community engagement and meeting diverse customer needs. The latest checkout technology aligns with Co-op’s commitment to enhancing the overall shopping experience for all customers.
