“Canadian Airlines Receive Millions in Emergency Aid”

The government has greenlit $76 million in emergency assistance for Flair Airlines as the steep cost of jet fuel continues to impact airline finances. Flair CEO Len Corrado highlighted in an interview that the funding signifies government acknowledgment of the issue’s severity and commitment to maintaining industry competitiveness.

Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. announced its approval of bailout loans to help mitigate the escalating fuel expenses and enhance airfare affordability. The Crown corporation stipulates that the loan must be repaid within a four-year period, with interest rates set below market standards.

Amid the surge in energy prices resulting from the Iran conflict that began in late February, Air Transat’s parent company, Transat A.T. Inc., has secured $430 million in financial aid. This rise in energy costs has led to jet fuel prices nearly doubling compared to a year ago.

Additionally, Porter Airlines recently received a $125 million bailout loan as part of the government’s support initiatives for the aviation sector.
