A courageous woman has shared her harrowing ordeal of being abducted by a violent gang with intentions to sell her virginity and organs, detailing her eventual escape from the terror.
Lurata Lyon, now 45, recounted how she faced unimaginable horrors after fleeing her hometown of Veliki Trnovac, Serbia, at the age of 17 to evade the extreme violence in Yugoslavia during the 1990s. Following a traumatic incident involving an ethnic cleansing murder squad in her village, she embarked on a perilous journey to Kosovo in search of assistance from the Red Cross.
Her nightmare escalated when she was betrayed by a local translator who tipped off a human trafficking gang, leading to her abduction while innocently buying a magazine at a newsstand. Subsequently, she was subjected to appalling treatment, including witnessing the rape of other women to teach her how to satisfy men.
Despite enduring constant threats and being held at gunpoint, Lurata remained resolute. She vividly recalled the gang’s menacing promises of selling her to the highest bidder, engaging in prostitution, and harvesting her organs. The terror she experienced was real, and the gang members reveled in her fear.
During a treacherous journey towards the Albanian border, Lurata faced threats of violence and coercion from her captors. However, a pivotal moment occurred when she found an opportunity to escape while left momentarily unattended, leading to a dramatic dash for freedom.
Rescued by a UN police officer after a confrontation with her captor, Lurata underwent further challenges upon her return to her hometown. She fell victim to another group of assailants, enduring brutal treatment before her eventual rescue by her father, who facilitated her escape from the country.
Upon arriving in the UK and obtaining British citizenship, Lurata expressed her gratitude towards the British people for their support. She emphasized the importance of kindness and resilience in the face of adversity, acknowledging the profound impact of trauma on individuals.
Today, Lurata serves as a motivational speaker and public speaking coach in the UK, sharing her inspiring journey of survival and resilience with others.
