EE, a subsidiary of BT, is rolling out a new feature called Smart Search for its TV devices. This feature aims to simplify the process of finding content by allowing users to search based on mood, themes, plot details, or quotes. By saying phrases like “Marty McFly” or “Great Scott,” users can easily locate desired content. The search results aggregate live TV, on-demand services, and streaming apps in a single interface.
Additionally, EE is launching Mood Matcher, an AI-powered tool that assists viewers in refining their choices further by answering questions about mood, preferred genres, and themes. This tool provides personalized recommendations to help users make decisions quickly. EE’s Director of Product, Home & TV, Luciano Oliveira, emphasized the goal of making content selection effortless for households.
While Sky offers similar voice search features, EE is proud to be the first pay-TV service in the UK to introduce conversational, AI-powered search functionalities. Analyst Paolo Pescatore noted that enhanced content discovery enhances the viewing experience, particularly in a content-saturated environment.
Smart Search and Mood Matcher are currently accessible through the EE TV app on compatible TVs, with upcoming support for EE TV Pro and EE TV Box Edge devices. More information is available at ee.co.uk/smartsearch.
