“Disruptive Passenger Jailed for Flight Incident”

A man has been sentenced to jail after causing a disruptive incident on a flight that required police intervention. Flight attendants on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Manchester had to use cable ties to restrain Wayne Scott, who was behaving loudly and verbally aggressively, causing concern among other passengers. Scott, 47, was sentenced to 23 weeks in jail by Manchester Crown Court for his actions.

According to prosecutor Tanya Elahi, staff onboard the flight contacted police at Manchester Airport on September 8 last year due to Scott’s behavior. Witnesses reported that Scott, who appeared heavily intoxicated, was arguing with his father, who was also onboard the flight. Despite attempts by cabin crew to calm him down, Scott continued to act disruptively, using foul language towards fellow passengers, causing distress among families and children onboard.

Scott’s behavior escalated to the point where he assumed a threatening stance, prompting cabin crew to restrain him using a plastic zip tie and a seat belt. Upon landing at Manchester Airport, Scott was handed over to the police. In court, Scott’s defense lawyer, Joshua Normanton, mentioned that the incident was uncharacteristic for Scott, who expressed remorse after viewing footage of his behavior.

Normanton explained that Scott was going through personal hardships at the time, including the recent loss of his stepfather to cancer and his father’s cancer diagnosis. Despite his marital issues, Scott remains hopeful for reconciliation and holds a stable job in the metal and mining industry in Bahrain. Although the defense argued against imprisonment, Judge Tom Gilbart deemed Scott’s behavior as unacceptable, leading to his guilty plea for being drunk on an aircraft.
