Greene King is set to offer complimentary pints of Guinness this weekend coinciding with the start of the Six Nations rugby tournament. To avail of the free pint, individuals are required to reserve a table for any Six Nations match on February 7 through the Greene King website and display the booking confirmation at the bar.
This promotion is valid at all Greene King sports pubs, including Flaming Grill, Hungry Horse, and Belhaven, as part of the new Fans Reunited initiative. The campaign is endorsed by Rugby World Cup champions Martin Johnson and Jason Robinson.
Zoe Bowley, the Managing Director of Greene King pubs, emphasized the importance of sport and the pub environment in uniting people. The initiative aims to reignite connections between old friends over a pint, in line with the spirit of the Guinness Six Nations and the presence of rugby icons in the campaign.
Former rugby star Martin Johnson highlighted the unifying power of rugby and the enduring friendships it fosters, echoing the sentiment of the Fans Reunited campaign. The initiative aims to strengthen the bond of communities through shared experiences at the pub, beyond just the sport itself.
In related news, the Treasury recently announced a 15% reduction in business rates for pubs and music venues starting in April, following pressure to provide support due to changes made in the November budget and the conclusion of pandemic assistance. Treasury minister Dan Tomlinson stated that pubs stand to benefit significantly from this support, with an average savings of £1,650 per pub next year.
This decision is welcomed by Emma McClarkin, chief executive of the BBPA, who expressed gratitude for the Government’s responsiveness to the concerns of publicans and consumers, ensuring the financial stability of local pubs in the face of rising business costs.
