Customers are expressing deep sorrow following the announcement of the permanent closure of a family-owned art and stationery store.
Clarkes of Sussex shared the news via social media, stating that after over 40 years in operation, it is time to close its Burgess Hill store in West Sussex.
Although an exact closing date has not been specified, the store is set to shut down in April, prompting reactions from devoted customers.
In response to the news, one shopper expressed, “Your shop will be greatly missed; visiting has always been a delight.” Another commented, “This news is truly saddening.”
A third individual wrote, “I have been a patron of your store for many years, and your service has always been exceptional.” A fourth person added, “I am deeply saddened to hear this news – your store and staff are wonderful.”
Clarkes of Sussex previously closed its Brighton branch last year after 25 years of business but still maintains other stores in various locations across Sussex, including Haywards Heath.
Another store under different ownership, Clarkes in Lewes, is also scheduled to close in March.
Jay Patel, the proprietor of Clarkes of Sussex, shared a message on social media explaining the decision to close the Burgess Hill store. He expressed, “It is with mixed emotions that I announce the closure of Clarkes.
“After more than four decades of serving this wonderful community, and my personal 35-year journey here, it is time for us to bid farewell this April.
“Above all, I will cherish the kindness, loyalty, and countless conversations we have shared. I have witnessed the growth of your families and the formation of friendships over the years.
