After operating for 46 years, a well-known hotel and restaurant abruptly closed its doors, leaving its loyal patrons heartbroken.
Situated near Bilsborrow in Lancashire, Guys Thatched Hamlet, a 65-room hotel along St Michael’s Road by the canal, has officially ceased operations. Reports indicate that all employees have been let go.
A closure notice has been affixed to the hotel entrance, signaling the end of an era for the establishment that spanned nearly 14 acres, encompassing a pub, eatery, sports pavilion, event spaces, cricket field, bowling green, and three parking lots.
As disclosed by the Lancashire Post, the closure announcement on the note reads: “After 46 years in business, we confirm the closure of Guy’s Thatched Hamlet. This decision was made after careful consideration, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our patrons, staff, and suppliers for their unwavering support over the years.”
Affected customers took to social media to express their sorrow. One reminisced about a proposal at the venue in 2012, while another shared a similar engagement story from 2015, lamenting the loss of the cherished location.
The Wilkinson family had overseen the business since 1980 and put it up for sale last year, citing a net turnover of around £4.2 million without a specified guide price.
The listing described Guys Thatched Hamlet & Hotel as strategically located for easy access to popular tourist destinations like the Lake District, Fylde Coast, and the Trough of Bowland. The hotel boasted 65 ensuite rooms catering to both leisure and corporate clientele, benefiting from its proximity to major motorways.
Having undergone extensive renovations and expansions over the years, Guy’s Thatched Hamlet had established itself as a prominent destination in the North West of England, enjoying consistent trade year-round, especially during peak seasons.
