Ukraine has declared its intention to escalate fierce assaults against Russia, in response to the Kremlin’s decision to deploy over 400,000 new troops to the frontlines. Following a series of successful strikes by Kyiv on Russian targets and effective attacks on Kremlin oil facilities, the Ukrainian military is intensifying its efforts.
The Kremlin has initiated the creation of 11 new divisions this year to bolster its campaign against Ukraine, with a total of 409,000 Russian troops set to be mobilized in 2026. Additionally, there may be further reinforcements from North Korea to support Russian forces.
In a strategic shift, Ukrainian military leaders are planning offensives on Russian territory to divert attention and resources away from the frontline. Commander in Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, emphasized the importance of offensive operations to maintain the initiative in the conflict.
Russia has suffered significant losses over the past four years of warfare with Ukraine, with casualties exceeding a million troops. Ukrainian forces have effectively targeted Russian military assets, disrupting oil exports and impacting the ability of Russian officials to provide heating to civilians during harsh weather conditions.
Despite Russia’s numerical advantage, the conflict has taken a toll on their military capabilities, with reports of equipment shortages and ineffectiveness. Ukrainian special forces have also successfully carried out sabotage missions against Russian submarines, further weakening Russian military capabilities.
Russian advances into Ukrainian territory have been limited, with minimal gains in land acquisition despite deploying substantial combat troops. The conflict has resulted in heavy losses for Russia, with significant casualties and the loss of numerous military assets.
Looking ahead, Ukraine remains committed to defending its strategic positions and executing further operations against Russian forces. The ongoing conflict underscores the resilience and determination of Ukrainian armed forces in the face of Russian aggression.
