A truck has collided with pedestrians multiple times in a town, accompanied by gunshots and the presence of emergency services.
The incident occurred in Gangkou, Zhongshan, China, where reports indicate that the driver deliberately struck individuals while gunshots were also heard. Several videos circulating online depict a white van being driven recklessly, crashing into other vehicles on the wrong side of the road.
One video shows the van reversing after apparently hitting a person on the ground, followed by a forward movement to strike the individual. Subsequently, an emergency services vehicle with flashing lights arrives at the scene amidst shouting and screaming directed at the truck driver’s actions.
Another video captures police cars blocking the van, which attempts to escape. People are seen hitting the van’s windows, eventually gaining access and pulling the driver out.
Social media reports detail the incident, alleging that the lorry driver tried to breach a police blockade, resulting in police firing at the vehicle in an effort to halt it. During the escape attempt, the truck hit pedestrians, including someone riding an electric bike.
Gangkou, situated in Guangdong province, a bustling urban area in southern China known for its port-related commerce, has witnessed public outrage towards the lorry driver. Some individuals have also referenced a tragic event in Zhuhai last November, where 38 people died and 48 were injured when a driver plowed into a crowd at a sports center.
During the Zhuhai incident, bodies were strewn on the ground as witnesses rushed to aid the injured before emergency services arrived. The distressing scene unfolded outside Zhuhai Sports Centre, with reports indicating that the victims were middle-aged and elderly individuals exercising on the track.
The police statement revealed that a car struck pedestrians at the sports center in Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City before fleeing the scene. The driver was later identified as Fan Weiqiu, who was dissatisfied with a divorce settlement and had attempted suicide with a knife.
