Virgin Media users with outdated TV set-top boxes are urged to upgrade soon to avoid losing access to the BBC iPlayer app. The company has notified customers with aging TiVo models that their devices will no longer support iPlayer starting from July 23rd. Newer V6 and 360 gadgets are not affected, ensuring uninterrupted viewing of BBC content.
Virgin Media advises customers who may be impacted to respond to upgrade notifications promptly. Failure to do so within the next few weeks will result in the inability to use iPlayer after the specified deadline in July. This move follows a trend where older devices struggle to keep up with the evolving features of certain applications, as seen with WhatsApp’s phasing out of support for older smartphones.
In addition to maintaining access to BBC iPlayer, upgrading to newer Virgin boxes offers added benefits such as regular updates and bonus channels. Recent updates have introduced new services like British Screen Classics and wedotv movies, enhancing the viewing experience for users.
