Max Verstappen managed to avoid a penalty following a review by the Formula 1 stewards post the Hungarian Grand Prix. The incident in question occurred during a race between the Dutch driver and Lewis Hamilton, where Verstappen overtook his Ferrari rival without making contact, causing Hamilton to take evasive action off the track.
The incident occurred on lap 29 at turn four in Budapest when Verstappen made a move on the inside of Hamilton. Although there was no physical contact, Hamilton had to veer off track to avoid a collision.
Although Verstappen emerged ahead after the incident, race control took note and decided to investigate the matter post the Grand Prix. Both Verstappen and Hamilton were summoned to provide their perspectives on the incident, with Hamilton opting not to attend.
Ultimately, the stewards concluded that no penalty would be imposed on Verstappen. They stated that despite the ambitious nature of the overtake, there was no contact between the cars, and the incident did not qualify as forcing another car off track.
Verstappen finished the race in ninth place, earning two points for his Red Bull team, while Hamilton finished in 12th place, one lap behind, concluding a challenging weekend for him following a tough qualifying session.
The Hungarian Grand Prix was won by Lando Norris, who secured his fifth win of the season and third victory in four Grands Prix, holding off his F1 title rival, Oscar Piastri. Norris successfully implemented an alternative strategy, while Piastri had to back off on the final lap to avoid a collision with Norris.
With this win, Norris closed the gap to Piastri to just nine points in the championship standings as they head into the summer break. George Russell claimed third place in his Mercedes, as pole-sitter Charles Leclerc struggled towards the end of the race in his Ferrari.
