“Unseen Heroes: The Vital Role Migrant Care Workers Play”

I provide care for your elderly relatives, your grandparents, and the individuals who hold a special place in your heart.

I offer comfort and support during their moments of fear and vulnerability. I am there to hold their hands when they tremble, to bring solace in the silent hours of the night. My role involves assisting them in regaining their strength, their appetite, and their sense of humanity.

Being a migrant care worker is a source of deep pride for me. It is not merely a job but a reflection of my identity and values. I arrived in the UK seeking safety and a fresh start as an asylum seeker. Through my work as a carer, I have garnered respect, gratitude, and genuine recognition from those I have helped.

Despite the fulfillment I find in my work, I sometimes feel unseen by the nation I serve. I devote long hours to my duties, pushing myself to the limit. I contribute my fair share through taxes and hard work, earning every bit of progress with dedication and empathy.

It pains me when individuals refer to workers like me as a “burden” or even as “strangers.” Each day, I rise before dawn to ensure someone’s mother is cared for, to extend my hours so a family can trust their father’s safety in my hands. I fill crucial roles that often go unrecognized, sustaining care homes and hospitals alike.

The absence of migrant carers would create a significant void in our societal framework, impacting millions of lives. The proposal to wait 15 years before seeking Indefinite Leave to Remain brings forth a sense of disillusionment after years of devoted service and sacrifice.

We do not seek special treatment or accolades. All we ask for is fairness and recognition of our shared humanity. How can we be labeled a burden when we bear so much responsibility and offer so much support?

I yearn for stability, respect, and the opportunity to build a secure future without enduring prolonged periods of uncertainty. We are not here to take; we are here to give, and we have been giving tirelessly since our arrival.

My deepest desire is for the country I serve to reciprocate the care and appreciation we extend to others.
