A man from the United Kingdom has passed away following an avalanche incident while skiing in the French Alps. The individual, thought to be in his 50s, was skiing off the designated slopes at the La Plagne resort in southeastern France, as confirmed by the resort management.
Rescue teams were alerted to the avalanche situation at 1:57 pm on Sunday, prompting an immediate response to the location. Approximately 52 individuals, including medical personnel, ski instructors, and a search dog deployed by helicopter, were mobilized to assist in locating and rescuing the British skier.
After an extensive 50-minute search effort, the man was discovered buried under 2.5 meters of snow, according to the resort officials. It was revealed that the man was part of a group skiing at the time of the avalanche, but he did not possess an avalanche transceiver and was not accompanied by a professional guide.
La Plagne expressed condolences to the man’s family during this tragic incident.
