Double Cold Weather Payments have been distributed to select households this week following snowfall in various regions of the UK. These payments, valued at £25 each, are granted when the average temperature in an area drops to zero degrees Celsius or below for seven consecutive days. In cases of prolonged cold spells, multiple payments may be received.
A total of 18 postcode areas have qualified for two Cold Weather Payments, totaling £50, after meeting the criteria on both December 30 and January 6. These areas include:

The Mirror recently disclosed that 451 postcode areas are eligible for Cold Weather Payments this year. Individuals can qualify for these payments if they receive specific benefits or mortgage support. Payments are typically deposited directly into the recipient’s bank account within 14 working days. However, separate application is necessary for individuals with infants or children under the age of five moving in with them.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) oversees the distribution of Cold Weather Payments, and the program is scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026. It is important to note that these payments are not available in Scotland, as they have been substituted with the Winter Heating Payment, valued at £59.75.
